A Month of Frights
I have not had as much opportunity to chat with everyone for some time. Life can be more important than movies once in awhile… ok ALL of the time.
So I thought we would go through a month of scary fun as I relive some scary titles during the month… maybe by the time it is all over I’ll have chatted about 20 or so movies (good and bad)… but the month will include some memorable titles, and where to find them.
To whet my appetite for this little endeavor, I was treated to an advance look at My Best Friend’s Exorcism available now on Prime Video.
Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) stars alongside Amiah Miller in this tale of friends living in 1988 (a year near and dear to my heart) when they conjure up an evil spirit who possesses Miller. It’s a tale loaded with big hair and more than a couple laughs along with the exorcism tale.
Better than I would have imagined, the film falls short of being spectacular but I may have been won over by the memories it brought up – and I have classmates from the same year for all the roles…you will too.
On a scare level – not so scary
On a fun level – better than I expected
Good for Teens and up, check out My Best Friend’s Exorcism on Prime Video
Today we started the march through the titles. I needed to start out light and Peacock had Halloween episodes of The Office – so I hit up the first one in the list from Season 2. The annual office Halloween Party is disrupted when Michael has to get rid of someone. Who will it be?

After the light start I went to run out and grab some ice cream before starting into my title of the day (only my Dairy Queen closed early) — the Blizzard I wanted remained out of reach. So a quick stop by the McDonald’s on the way home for a McFlurry would work. (only their ice cream machine was down). So I gave up and headed home to some tasty Culver’s custard in the freezer (I should have just went there to begin with.)
And then the hunt was on, I decided to start with a Purge film from my library. In this case, I landed on The Purge: Election Year. The Purge series always finds a way under my skin. The idea that no one is safe and everyone knows it is a terrifying thought. Lots of blood, lots of scares and a young woman who just wants her candy. Plus backstabbing and horrific behavior from politicians, come on, are we living real life?
On a scare level – Probably a 4 or 5 out of 10.
On a creepiness level – Probably a 6-7 out of 10 (this still feels creepy)
Good for 17+ as most of the things I see this month will be, I viewed The Purge: Election Year from my library but you’ll have to rent this title to see it.
So I move forward – after hearing my Milwaukee Brewers dropped another must win game and setting up some fantasy teams for the morning – it’s time to turn in. More to come…
