“This isn’t your typical home flipping show… My homes are reflecting the ‘local community.'” Sure they are… A24 has revealed the official trailer for a crazy brilliant new satire series called The Curse, a strange “genre-bending” creation straight from the mad genius minds of Nathan Fielder and filmmaker Benny Safdie (one half of the Safdie Brothers). It’s premiering at the 2023 New York Film Fest before it wraps up soon. The Curse is a scripted comedy that explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic HGTV show. Starring Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder, and Benny Safdie. But that’s just the start… “From this premise, which nimbly touches upon inescapable American issues of race, class, and capital, Fielder and Safdie branch out into an increasingly tangled network of ethical and moral gray zones, expertly balancing the tender and the merciless.” This looks amazing!! Totally F’ed up commentary on how depraved and selfish many of these TV show creators are, and how nothing is truly about “the community,” it’s always all about them.
