Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has made it official … Mar. 12 will be the street date for a full physical media spread of director Blitz Bazawule’s musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s 1982 novel, The Color Purple.
The ARR for the mid-March launch works out to 74 days and domestic box office receipts currently stand at $58.5 million (against a reported film production budget of $90 million).
Planned for distribution are stand-alone editions for the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD formats.
Additionally, Warner Bros. Discovery has inserted a premium VOD purchase window of Jan. 16, which is just 18 days after the film’s theatrical launch.
This multi-platform VOD window (Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, etc.) gives the very sophisticated “Helper” community an eight-week head-start on the distribution of their own Blu-ray —and possibly DVD —editions.
Bonus features are exclusive to the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD SKUs. These include four featurettes — “Creating The Color Purple: A Bold New Take on the Beloved Classic,” “Hell Yes! The Iconic Characters of The Color Purple,” “In The Flow: Creating The Color Purple’s Biggest Musical Moments” and “A Story For Me: The Legacy of The Color Purple.”
