continues the new season with new episodes on Disney+ weekly
There are plenty of new shows coming to Disney+ in June 2024, including continuations of new original Disney series. There is a focus on animated series instead of movies this month, but subscribers will find interesting additions like Star Wars’ The Acolyte and more episodes of Doctor Who. In addition to National Geographic, and its own original content, June will see a lot of Disney Channel original TV series being added to the Disney+ library so that families can rewatch episodes of their favorite shows.
The influx of serial programming in June follows a strong month for animation in May. The most popular content on Disney+ last month involved a lot of animation. X-Men ’97 blew audiences away right up until its finale in May and has fans excited to see what future seasons of the show might offer. Disney, however, has also experienced continued success with musical specials and concerts like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, which remains one of the biggest pieces of media for Disney+ as the real-life tour continues around the world.

Disney+ is home to some great movies including animated classics, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and so much more. Here are the best available.
The Best Movies And Shows Arriving On Disney+ This Month
The Acolyte (2024) – Weekly Episodes
Disney+ is the official streaming home for all of the Star Wars content, from the previously released movies to the new television shows. Because Disney+ keeps adding new shows to the Star Wars universe, the timeline keeps expanding for those fascinated by the on-screen lore. The Acolyte helps to expand the franchise even more.
The official Disney summary of the series says that it features an investigation into a crime spree that pits a Jedi Master against a warrior from his past, and to avoid any continuity issues with the other series on Disney+, the show is set at the start of the known Star Wars timeline. With a huge cast boasting the likes of Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, and Jodie Turner-Smith, the show promises to be a must-watch for Star Wars fans.
Following the two-episode series premiere, new episodes will be added to Disney+ weekly.
Donald Duck’s 90th Anniversary Shorts (1950 And 2024) – June 9
Disney is celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Donald Duck by adding a group of animated shorts to Disney+. Over the last few years, in honor of Disney’s 100th anniversary as a studio, many classic shorts have been restored and released for people to see (some for the first time since they ran in theaters decades ago), and these Donald Duck specific ones are some of those restored shorts.
While 1950’s “Crazy Over Daisy” features Donald attempting to visit Daisy when he’s interrupted by Chip n Dale, “Out on a Limb” features even more rivalry between the duck and the chipmunks as he saws through their tree. The classic shorts are also being released alongside “DIY Duck,” which is a new short for Disney fans. Though Disney has fully embraced computer generated animation in the modern day, these shorts are a great window into the classic animated world the studio created.
Disney Jr.’s Ariel (2024) – June 28
Some might argue that Disney doesn’t need more Little Mermaid content, but they would be wrong, especially since Disney+ is aimed at families, and families with young kids will love having access to these episodes. Disney Jr. has their own new animated series focusing on Ariel, but an Ariel as a child before the events of The Little Mermaid.
The series is definitely aimed at the youngest of family members, and in addition to the show itself, there are also animated shorts joining Disney+. It will give a little bit more variety for the families who have already seen the original animated movie or Halle Bailey’s live-action turn a million times. The release is just in time for school to be out as well, so kids will likely enjoy this addition over and over again.
Beaches (1988) – June 28
Beaches is a classic tear-jerker of a movie. Though it’s been available on Disney+ in other regions, it’s being added to Disney+ in the US in June. The movie, which stars Bette Middler and Barbara Hershey as a pair of life-long friends looking back on their relationship, is inspired by the 1985 novel of the same name.
It features a tragic ending for one character, some amazing musical performances by another, and above all, the reminder that the bonds of a true friendship are never completely broken. The main characters of the movie meet as children and frequently come and go from one another’s lives after disagreements or romantic relationships pull them in other directions. Ultimately, however, they will drop everything to be there for one another, which is part of the reason the story endures.
Doctor Who (2024) – Weekly Episodes
Just as Disney+ has become the official home for Star Wars content, it has also become the official home for new Doctor Who. Thanks to a deal with the BBC, episodes are released on Disney+ around the world and on BBC iPlayer in the UK along with airing on BBC One. The release model means that people around the world don’t have to wait as long to see the Doctor in action.
Season 14, which has been dubbed the newest incarnation of Doctor Who, starting over at Season 1, began airing and streaming in May. New episodes continue to release weekly throughout June on Disney+ and include Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Episodes in June will feature a trip to 1813 and a bounty hunter who changes the Doctor’s life.
Those who have the Hulu and Disney+ bundle will also have access to shows like The Bear. With so many new series on Disney+ in June, there is a huge variety of content for subscribers to watch.
The Acolyte
The Acolyte is a television series set in the Star Wars universe at the end of the High Republic Era, where both the Jedi and the Galactic Empire were at the height of their influence. This sci-fi thriller sees a former Padawan reunite with her former Jedi Master as they investigate several crimes – all leading to darkness erupting from beneath the surface and preparing to bring about the end of the High Republic.

Halle Bailey stars as Ariel, a young mermaid who desperately wants to see the world above the ocean. However, her father, King Triton (Javier Bardem), refuses to let her. A pact with the sea witch, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), will give her all that she desires, but at a price.

Doctor Who
Originally premiered in 1963, Doctor Who is a sci-fi series that follows a powerful being known as a Time Lord, referred to as the Doctor. Using an interdimensional time-traveling ship known as the TARDIS, the Doctor travels time and space with various companions as they solve multiple problems and help avert catastrophe as much as they almost cause it. Though the Doctor is always the same character, they experience regenerations, allowing them to be recast every few seasons as a unique immortal being with new personality traits.
