Summary

  • A Suits movie is preferred over season 10 due to potential cast availability and legacy preservation.
  • The Suits: L.A. spinoff is in development with a new cast, led by Stephen Amell.
  • Suits season 10 is unnecessary, with Suits: L.A. spinoff already in the works.

After Netflix added Suits to its library in 2023, the long-running television show experienced an extraordinary resurgence as more people discovered its engaging story and characters, leading to a new spinoff and discussions about continuing the original series. However, it would be in everyone’s best interests if the cast of Suits reunited to shoot a movie instead of another season. The USA Network legal drama, created by Aaron Korsh, debuted in June 2011. The show ran for nine seasons before its series finale aired in September 2019. Four years later, Suits received an extreme surge in popularity due to Netflix.

The first eight seasons of
Suits
are available on Netflix, and season 9 will be added to the streaming platform’s library on July 1, 2024. Meanwhile, all episodes of
Suits
are streaming on Peacock.

Korsh’s legal drama centered around a corporate law firm in New York City — Pearson Hardman. The show kicked off when Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross, a college dropout who charged money to take the LSAT for others, stumbled into Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter’s interviews for an associate lawyer at Pearson Hardman. Impressed by Mike, Harvey hired him, despite his lack of a law license, and the rest is history. Now, Suits is bigger than ever, despite being off the air for five years, and the people (including myself) want more, but only if it’s in the form of a film.

A Suits Movie Would Be A Better Reunion Than A Reboot

Suits Doesn’t Need A Season 10

A handful of the Suits cast and crew (including Patrick J. Adams, Sarah Rafferty, Dulé Hill, Amanda Schull, Abigail Spencer, and executive producer Jeff Wachtel) reunited for a panel at the ATX TV Festival on June 2, 2024. According to Variety, the group discussed the possibility of a Suits movie during the panel following a fan question. Adams said:

“I am a person of no power or authority, but obviously, there’s a Suits: LA show that is being made. That is the focus of [Suits creator] Aaron [Korsh], I think he would agree. But it’s definitely something he’s interested in doing, in trying to get the band back together. So it depends on a million things if that can happen, but is it possible? I think it is possible.”

Adams and Hill revealed they would be interested in reprising their Suits roles in a future project. But, of course, nothing is set in stone or official (yet). The good news is that Adams’ comment alludes to conversations about reuniting the cast of the USA Network legal drama are taking place. The bad news is that Adams was rather vague concerning whether the Suits continuation would be a film or season 10. For my sake (and I’m willing to bet a lot of other fans’ sake), a movie is much more ideal than a Suits revival for a few reasons.

Although
Suits: L.A.
features a new set of actors and a new story, it still takes place in the
Suits
universe, meaning that cameos by original cast members are possible.

It would be much easier for the actors to sign on for a one-and-a-half to two-hour film instead of committing to a multiple-episode tenth season. Of course, Meghan Markle wouldn’t return as Rachel Zane in either case. But the rest of the Suits cast could theoretically squeeze a reunion movie into their schedules, even if they have other projects. Consequently, a Suits film would likely feature the return of more of our favorite characters, while the cast would be limited in season 10. Plus, it’s much easier to ruin a show’s legacy by reviving it than producing a reunion movie.

There Is Already A New Suits Show Happening

Suits: L.A. Is In Development

Given that we already have a new series to look forward to, Suits season 10 is unnecessary. Following the legal drama’s resurgence in 2023, Aaron Korsh, Universal Television, and NBCUniversal began developing Suits: L.A. — a Suits spinoff in Los Angeles revolving around a cast led by Stephen Amell. Amell stars as Ted Black, a lawyer who recently moved from the East Coast and specializes in criminal and entertainment law. Other confirmed cast members include Bryan Greenberg as Rick Dodsen, Josh McDermitt as Stuart Lane, Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins, Troy Winbush as Kevin, and Alice Lee as Leah.

The cast and crew of
Suits L.A.
began filming in April 2024. A release date is unknown.

Although Suits: L.A. features a new set of actors and a new story, it still takes place in the Suits universe, meaning that cameos by original cast members are possible. So, if former stars like Patrick J. Adams or Sarah Rafferty could easily pop in and out of the spinoff, there is no need for a revival (that could potentially ruin the beloved and satisfying series finale). All in all, Suits season 10 is a bad idea for many reasons, including the existence of the upcoming spinoff, Suits: L.A.

What Could The Suits Movie Be About?

Which Suits Cast Members Would Return?

First of all, if a Suits movie happens, several cast members must be involved, including Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, and Sarah Rafferty. It would be a dream if Meghan Markle returned, even if she just popped in for a moment, but that’s unrealistic. Hopefully, her absence can be easily explained, and the writers don’t take the easy route by breaking Mike and Rachel up (or killing her). Nevertheless, a Suits film could chronicle a big case that Harvey and Mike take on at their Seattle firm (and perhaps they call for some help from their former New York coworkers).
