Arrow Video, with domestic sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has newly minted 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray editions of director Sam Raimi’s 1998 film adaptation of Scott B. Smith’s 1993 novel, A Simple Plan (Smith also provided the screenplay adaptation and received an Oscar-nomination for his efforts), ready for release on Nov. 19.
What can possibly go wrong if you find $4.4 million in a downed plane in the remote woods of Minnesota? Especially if it is a family affair!!
Well, in a word, plenty!
As the story goes Hank Mitchell (Bill Paxton), his brother Jacob (Billy Bob Thornton — nominated for Best Actor) and their close friend, Lou Chambers (Brent Briscoe), stumble upon the aforementioned plane wreckage in the woods. Upon investigation they discover that the dead pilot had a bag onboard containing $4.4 million in hundred dollar bills.
A plan is hatched to wait out the winter and divide the loot up in the spring … easy money. Hank’s wife, Sarah (Bridget Fonda), is included in the inner circle. Now all they have to do is wait.
Long before spring arrives there will be a half-dozen murders … who lives, who dies and what happens to the cash will all be revealed on Nov. 19 when Arrow Video dispatches 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray editions (a new 4K restoration from the original camera negative) into the domestic physical media marketplace.
Bonus goodies include two new commentary options — the first features film critics Glenn Kenny and Farran Smith Nehme, while the second teams production designer Patrizia von Brandenstein with prolific special features producer Justin Beahm.
Additionally, there is behind-the-scenes footage, video sessions with actors Paxton, Thornton and Fonda, director Sam Raimi and producer Jim Jacks and three featurettes — “Of Ice and Men,” “Standing Her Ground” and “Dead of Winter.”
