Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Terrifier 3 (2024)

This article includes detailed descriptions of fictional torture, murder, and sexual self-mutilation.

Although Terrifier 3 features a lot of disturbing sequences, the most upsetting scene in the movie isn’t actually one of Art the Clown’s kills. Terrifier 3’s brutal kills set a new standard for the franchise. Although the tone of 2016’s original Terrifier might be significantly darker than the new movie, Terrifier 3 features a lot more kills and more elaborate torture methods than ever for its unfortunate victims. All of Art the Clown’s movies revel in disturbing imagery and brutal violence, but the slasher sequel’s boundary-pushing content almost becomes comically over-the-top at times.

Terrifier 4: How Will The “Final” Movie Resolve That Cliffhanger?

The ending of Terrifier 3 featured a literal and metaphorical cliffhanger, leaving the door open for Terrifier 4 to resolve the ongoing narrative.

Fortunately, director Damian Leone infuses Terrifier 3 with enough genuinely scary scenes to ensure that the sequel is tense and terrifying, as well as simply stomach-churning. The violence alone is upsetting, but scenes like Sienna hallucinating her brutally murdered friend at the dinner table also pack an emotional punch. Similarly, Terrifier 3’s opening scene is upsetting precisely because its final death is kept off-screen, leaving the worst to the viewer’s imagination. That said, the sequel’s worst scene of all is nowhere near as demure. Unfortunately, Terrifier 3’s already-infamous glass sequence leaves almost nothing off-screen.

Vicky Masturbates With A Glass Shard While Art Kills People In Terrifier 3

Victoria’s Villainous Introduction Is Truly Terrifying

Although Terrifier 3’s opening scene prompted walkouts and vomiting, that is not the moment that has gone viral on social media after the movie’s release. Instead, it is Terrifier 3’s glass scene that has set TikTok, X, and Reddit alight with horrified reactions. In this sequence, Terrifier’s original Final Girl Victoria is established as Art the Clown’s new demonically possessed accomplice. Vicky arrives in an abandoned house with Art, takes her own life with a massive shard of broken glass, and lies down in a bathtub. She remains dormant there for five years.

Then, a pair of exterminators search the house and unwittingly awaken this undying evil. Like Art, Vicky seemingly can’t be killed by conventional means. As such, she wakes up and kills the first exterminator by stabbing him in the neck with the glass shard before she walks upstairs and watches Art gleefully torture and kill the other exterminator. As Art bites off his fingers, scalps him, and drives a nail through his hand, Vicky uses the shard of glass to masturbate in Terrifier 3’s most viscerally upsetting moment. Even Terrifier 3’s ending doesn’t come close to outdoing this.

Vicky’s Glass Shard Scene Is Worse Than Terrifier 3’s Most Controversial Scenes

Terrifier 3’s Kill Scenes Aren’t As Impactful As Vicky’s Disturbing Display

In terms of its shock factor, no other scene from Terrifier 3 outdoes Vicky’s horrifying display. The opening sequence showcases an entire family’s murder, while the shower scene sees Art reduce two victims to shreds with a chainsaw. However, the latter is played in part for dark laughs, while the former at least leaves something to the imagination. In contrast, Terrifier 3’s explicit nod to The Exorcist is one of the most shocking things that has been seen on cinema screens for some time. Vicky’s brand of evildoing is more libidinal than Art’s bloodletting, and the sequel never lets viewers forget this.

Vicky’s sadistic joy at watching the exterminator’s death makes Regan’s ordeal in
The Exorcist
seem like a minor behavioral problem.

The largely positive reviews Terrifier 3 received prove that critics can get on Art’s wavelength. The clown commits some monstrous atrocities throughout the three Terrifier movies, but he does so as an expressive showman with a penchant for pitch-black humor. His actions are horrific and appropriately terrifying, but he commits his crimes with a wink to the camera and a knowing smile. In contrast, Vicky’s sadistic joy at watching the exterminator’s death, paired with the sheer depravity of her self-mutilation, makes Regan’s ordeal in The Exorcist seem like a minor behavioral problem.

Audience Reactions To Terrifier 3’s Glass Scene & Vicky Speak For Themselves

Social Media Is Abuzz With Shocked Reactions To This Already-Infamous Moment

Vicky’s gruesome glass scene is one of the worst moments in Terrifier 3 since its violence is self-inflicted, and even Art the Clown himself looks a little unsettled by his accomplice’s display. Later in the movie, when Art and Victoria take Gabbie, Sienna, and Jess hostage after killing Jonathan and Jess’s husband, it is Victoria who taunts Sienna and cackles with delight at the carnage they have caused. The villain almost supplants Art as the movie’s main monster thanks to her sheer mean-spirited hatred of humanity, which comes across as more ruthless and brutal even than Art’s grisly tableaus.

Terrifier 3
is currently playing in theaters.

The public response appears to mirror this, with TikTok user spooksandghoulzz singling out the scene as the most upsetting moment in the movie and one Reddit thread questioning why it wasn’t mentioned among more online discussions. Since Vicky’s glass scene technically isn’t the scene with the highest body count, it has sparked a little less controversy than Terrifier 3’s major character deaths. However, the moment still proves that Terrifier 3 truly pushed the boundaries of the horror genre with the sort of upsetting imagery that rarely makes it to the big screen.
