Filmmaker Godfrey Reggio became something of a sensation with his “experimental” “non-linear” and “non-plot” trilogy of films known as “The Qatsi Trilogy” — Koyaanisqatsi (1982), Powaqqatsi (1988) and Naqoyqatsi (2022).
From time to time, if you love film, it is nice to have something different than blockbuster “franchise” (tent pole) and Hollywood cookie cutter rom-coms to enjoy.
One such opportunity comes around again on Nov. 12 with the DVD and Blu-ray debut of Reggio latest creative film experience, Once Within a Time, courtesy of Oscilloscope Laboratories.
If are looking for three acts and a linear narrative, you are in the wrong place. Once With a Time is vintage Reggio, complete with all the visual power of the famed Qatsi Trilogy.
Reggio latest cinematic feast, complete with the Adam, Eve, the Garden of Eden, nuclear explosions and unnamed child actors (which doesn’t even begin, or come close to giving one a hint about the film) was completed sometime in 2022, worked the festival circuit and got a very limited arthouse theatrical run beginning in October of 2023 (opening the same weekend as Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which grossed $181 million and still hasn’t been released on DVD, Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD as of yet).
Once Within a Time then returned to the festival circuit … until now with the DVD and Blu-ray debut on Nov. 12 from Oscilloscope Laboratories.
Bonus goodies include commentary and a making-of featurette.
