Captain America: Brave New World will once again bring a heartbreaking story for the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s most tragic super soldier. Chris Evans starred in some of the MCU’s best entries as Steve Rogers, leading Marvel’s three Captain America movies so far, which are considered by many to make up the best trilogy in the MCU. After Evans exited the MCU in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson became the new Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Now, Mackie will lead his first MCU film, starring in 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World. The film will thrust Sam Wilson into a tumultuous professional relationship with the President of the United States, Thunderbolts Ross, now played by Harrison Ford, after William Hurt’s passing. The first Captain America: Brave New World images have been released, teasing the dynamic between the two characters, as well as giving a new look at Sam’s different Captain America costume and more. A description of the first footage revealed from the movie also revealed that the MCU’s most tragic super soldier is in trouble.

Following his MCU debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Carl Lumbly will return as Isaiah Bradley in the new Captain America film. At CinemaCon, Marvel revealed the first footage from Captain America: Brave New World. While the footage was not released to the public, a description of the action reveals that Marvel Studios will be making Isaiah’s story even more heartbreaking. In the footage, a scene sees Isaiah Bradley start shooting at the president at an event, seemingly acting as a sleeper agent, similar to Bucky Barnes when he was the Winter Soldier.

Isaiah Bradley Tragic MCU History Explained
The Character Has A Painful Past
The story presented by the Captain America: Brave New World footage is heartbreaking for Bradley due to his MCU past. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showed how the character had not been recognized for his efforts as a super soldier in service of the US government until Sam Wilson interfered in the series finale. Instead, Bradley was imprisoned for 30 years after failing to neutralize the Winter Soldier out of the government’s fear of what the reveal of Isaiah Bradley’s existence would mean to the world.
While Steve Rogers was celebrated as Captain America and Sam Wilson is asked by Thunderbolt Ross to form the new Avengers in Captain America: Brave New World, Bradley was shunned to the side, hidden, and experimented on for 30 years. Now that the character is finally getting the recognition he deserves, Bradley will once again be controlled by others to do their bidding, and trying to kill the president is a surefire way of making Bradley’s hard-earned recognition be forgotten again. By doing so, Captain America: Brave New World will make Isaiah Bradley’s MCU history even more tragic.
Captain America: Brave New World
Captain America: Brave New World (formerly titled New World Order) marks Sam Wilson’s first MCU big-screen appearance as Steve Rogers’ successor after receiving the suit and shield in Phase 4’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie returns as the titular Avenger alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumby as Isaiah Bradley, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Incredible Hulk’s former ally Samuel Sterns. Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier focuses on Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passed the Captain America mantle over to him in Avengers: Endgame. The Disney+ mini-series features a Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) team-up, as the title suggests, as they track down an anti-nationalist group known as the Flag Smashers. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw the return of familiar faces, such as Daniel Brühl’s Baron Zemo and Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, while also introducing new characters like Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, aka US Agent.
