The UK’s Cherry Red Records’ Esoteric Antenna
boutique label, with domestic sales and marketing support provided by MVD
Entertainment Group, has carved out Friday, Nov. 3 as the domestic release date
for the DVD/3 CD Combo Pack collection titled Todd
Rundgren: At the BBC 1972-1982.
Recording industry maven. Artist, writer and producer … iconic. And, as a fan you may have missed this when
it was first offered by Esoteric Antenna back in early 2015 in the U.K. (not
sure about domestic).
Without Todd Rundgren: At the BBC 1972-1982 in
your music library (something like 40 albums and 21 singles, not even counting
bootlegs) it simply won’t be complete.
Mark it down, Nov. 3, this is a must.
Let’s unpack this.
First the DVD. 70 minutes and all
of the material featured here was recorded between 1975 and 1982 … three
different renditions of “Old Grey Whistle Test” series (“Real Man,” “The Seven
Rays”), Rundgren and Utopia at the Bearsville Picnic with a presentation of “Singring
and the Glass Guitar” (from the “Ra” album released in February of 1977) and
the entire 1982 “Whistle Test” special (“It Wouldn’t Have Made Any Different,” “Can
We Sill Be Friends,” “Tiny Demons”), which features two songs not included in
the BBC broadcast (“Song of the Viking” and “Lysistrata”).
The three companion CDs that are included in this
set are: The 1972 live BBC show, the 1975 “Hammersmith” show and the 1977 Utopia
Oxford Polytechnic live concert (you can retire your pirated copy) … a total of
30 unreleased tracks. A literal gold
mine of classic material.
If you missed the collection back in 2015 and have
been chasing it (eBay, etc.), you can stop the search and place your orders now.
