At the end of Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 6, Morgan and Mo separated from the main group, intent on going back to Alexandria in search of Rick Grimes. This effectively made Madison the protagonist of Fear the Walking Dead again for its final six episodes.
Now, The Walking Dead (via iTalkTWDU) has released a teaser trailer for the Fear the Walking Dead season 8 part 2, featuring the return of an original character from the series.
As seen in the trailer, Victor Strand is still alive following the seven-year time jump between seasons 7 and 8. He also appears to have foregone his villainous ways, as he is now offering to help Madison.
What To Expect From Fear The Walking Dead’s Final Episodes
Strand’s return to Fear the Walking Dead season 8 could result in conflict with characters like June and Daniel, who are aware of Strand’s past as an antagonist in season 7. Even so, Strand’s return will ultimately deliver his long-awaited reunion with Madison, allowing the two to pick up where their friendship left off in Fear the Walking Dead season 4. While it’s unclear if others in Madison’s group will be able to trust him, Madison’s past with Strand means she may be able to make him an ally again.
Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 6 also ended teasing the return of another familiar face. A post-credits scene revealed someone listening to Madison talking about PADRE over a radio, signaling for parents whose children were taken by the group to come reunite with them. The person has multiple important items from the series, including the hammer Madison used to kill Troy Otto in Fear the Walking Dead season 3, as well as Alicia’s prosthetic arm. Given the hammer, it’s likely Fear the Walking Dead‘s mystery final villain is Troy, who somehow survived Madison’s attack and the dam bursting.
With the possibility of multiple returnees for Fear the Walking Dead season 8, it seems the final six episodes will be paying homage to the show’s original characters. While some like Alicia are probably gone for good, Madison, Strand, Daniel, and maybe Troy and Luciana could come back in the final stretch of episodes. Now that Strand is returning, the final six episodes of Fear the Walking Dead season 8 seem like they will be one last ride for the many original characters the spinoff introduced to the Walking Dead universe.
