Fun City Editions, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has a blast from the past (in more ways that one) planned for the physical media marketplace on Oct. 22 with the Blu-ray debut of writer/director Lawrence Dane’s Heavenly Bodies.
This is absolutely marvelous news that Fun City Editions has unearthed this Cynthia Dale (as Patty in My Bloody Valentine and perhaps best known for her role as Olivia Novak in the Street Legal television series of the late 80s and early 90s) treasure. This is a new 4K film restoration from the original 35mm internegative.
I had the pleasure of putting this out originally on VHS in September of 1985 when running the marketing at 20th Century-Fox’s Key Video label. And, to the best of my knowledge (with the exception of a couple of pirated DVD editions) Dane’s film has been out of print.
Riding the wave of the success of Flashdance in 1983 and Footloose in 1984, Heavenly Bodies blends a story about aerobics instructor Samantha Blair (Dale), who decides to open her own studio, with a high-energy soundtrack (released by CBS Records). Her initial success and future dreams are shattered when a well-financed rival, Jack Pearson (Walter George Alton), makes the moves to shut her down and destroy her start-up business.
Samantha comes up with a unique solution … a marathon dance-fitness challenge. Enjoy the show!!
Bonus goodies include commentary by author and film historian Millie De Chirico (“TCM Underground: 50 Must-See Films from the World of Classic Cult and Late-Night Cinema”), who is joined by Jeffrey Mixed. There is also a newly-prepared video session with Cynthia Dale … and the soundtrack CD is also included here as a bonus (rock on).
Note, Heavenly Bodies will also be available on DVD from Fun City Editions on Oct. 22.
