Gwyneth Paltrow was victorious in the ski crash trial against retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, but some fans are probably wondering why she was only awarded $1.
Terry claimed that Gwyneth caused a crash on a Park City ski slope that left him seriously injured, but she said she was not at fault for the crash. Initially he sued her for over $3 million, but a judge shot down his attempt to get punitive damages and the amount was changed to $300,000.
Gwyneth countersued for just $1 and there’s a good reason.

In addition to the $1 winnings from the trial, Sanderson will have to reimburse Paltrow for her legal fees, and that’s what she was most likely hoping to receive.
You might remember that when Taylor Swift countersued a radio DJ for sexual assault, she only requested $1 as well. She was just hoping to make a point with her suit and money didn’t matter to her. Clearly it’s the same case for Gwyneth.
After the verdict was read, Gwyneth took to her Instagram Stories to release a statement.
“I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case,” she said.
