Warning! Potential Spoilers for Titans #9!Nightwing, Cyborg, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven are widely recognized as the most prominent and core members of the Titans. It’s among these heroes that one has decided to retire, albeit under pressure, and will officially be stepping back from their superhero duties. However, given recent developments, there’s a strong possibility that this forced retirement could potentially pave the way for the beloved Titan to turn towards villainy.

Tom Taylor and Lucas Meyer’s Titans #9 sees Beast Boy continuing to wrestle with the aftermath and repercussions of the crisis event, Beast World. This crisis witnessed the hero transforming into the Star Conqueror, Garro, in an effort to rescue the world from the Necrostar. However, Garfield inadvertently infected Earth’s populace with spores, transforming them into beast hybrids.

Despite the crisis being averted by the joint efforts of Earth’s heroes, Beast Boy now faces the resentment of many humans who blame him for the crisis and perceive him as a monster despite him not being in control of his actions at the time.

Beast Boy Quits the Titans Due to His Guilt Over ‘Beast World’

Titans #9 Beast Boy quitting the Titans

In response to the animosity directed at him, Garfield has sunk into a state of depression and has reached the conclusion he should retire from his heroics. He voices this sentiment when he announces to the Titans that his “superhero days are over.” Despite his team’s quick defense, arguing that the hatred he faces is unwarranted and that just because the world sees him negatively doesn’t mean he should cease helping people or being a hero, Beast Boy remains unconvinced. He storms off to his room, firmly convinced that he is the monster people perceive him as.

If Garfield does indeed retire from being a hero, it will be a significant loss to the Titans and the superhero community as a whole. One of Beast Boy’s greatest strengths lies in his compassion and unwavering commitment to doing what’s right, qualities that make him an exceptional hero in addition to his remarkable abilities. Beast Boy’s shapeshifting abilities are unparalleled and entirely distinctive, as demonstrated when he saved the world from the Necrostar by transforming into the Star Conqueror. Hence, if Garfield chooses to retire, the DCU could lose one of its most pure-hearted and uniquely powered heroes.

Beast Boy’s TRUE Villian Era Is Finally Here, Thanks to Raven

In Titans #9, in addition to Beast Boy possibly quitting, Garfield also falls victim to the schemes of Raven’s evil doppelganger, who has successfully impersonated the empath. This dark Raven feigns comfort for Beast Boy but instead forcibly strips away his emotions. The consequences of losing his emotions, or at least some of them, remain unseen, but combined with the world’s hatred and branding him as a villain, this new emotionless Beast Boy could indeed become the very monster people fear, potentially setting him on the path of villainy.
