Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals has several different endings players can experience based on their choices and their conversations with the game’s many side characters. Much like in Oxenfree, the fates of Riley, Jacob, and their numerous friends, allies, and adversaries are left in the players’ hands. It’s ultimately up to players to decide which ending they feel is right.Major Spoilers For Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals
Apart from the major endings to Oxenfree 2’s sharply written narrative, players can also decide whether to engage with side characters and help with their struggles. These are essentially untracked side quests, and they can have some minor impacts on the ending players ultimately choose.
How To Unlock All Major Endings To Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals
There are three major endings to Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals, all of which depend on who players choose to seal the portal on Edwards Island, barring the hostile Sunken from reality and freeing Oxenfree’s protagonist Alex and her friends. Players can choose to send Olivia, Oxenfree 2’s protagonist Riley, or Jacob if he is brought to Edwards Island.
If Olivia is chosen to seal the portal:
- Olivia enters the portal, and it’s implied that she happily reunites with her parents.
- Riley wakes up in Uptown Harbor the next morning and chats with Evelyn, who doesn’t remember a thing.
- Alex passes by with her friends and sits down to chat with Riley about the previous night’s events.
- Riley meets up with Jacob to chat about everything that’s happened.
- Alex sends a box of items to Riley’s son Rex. Players can look at these items to see what choices other players made.
This is arguably the game’s happy ending since Olivia ultimately gets what she wants, Alex is freed, and Jacob and Riley both have futures to look forward to.
If Riley is chosen to seal the portal:
- Riley wakes up in Uptown Harbor (implied to be one of Oxenfree 2’s alternate timelines) and meets her son Rex before they hike through Camena together.
- Alex is freed and sends a box of items to Riley’s father. Players can look at these items to find out what happens to the other characters, including Jacob.
Finally, players can also pick Jacob to seal the portal:
- Jacob enters the portal, freeing Olivia, Alex, and Riley.
- Riley is left to look after Jacob’s dog Athena.
The fates of other characters, including Olivia’s friends, depends on dialogue choices players have made throughout the game.
How To Help And Save Oxenfree 2’s Side Characters
Throughout the game, players can interact with side characters such as Evelyn, Hank, and Nick over the walkie-talkie. The key to helping these characters is to check the walkie-talkie often, stay in contact with them, and always choose to help them by doing their side quests.
Players should choose helpful dialogue options, tell them to avoid danger and prioritize their own families and personal safety wherever possible.
For example, to save Oxenfree 2’s Ranger Shelley, players must speak to her often, choose to help her investigate a strange voicemail left on her phone, and warn her to stay put.
Players can also save Violet and Charlie: Olivia’s friends, who reluctantly assist her with trying to open the portal. To do this, players should always choose kind and non-confrontational dialogue choices that show Riley respects their ability to make their own decisions. In Charlie’s case, players should also intervene and stop Jacob from lashing out at him.
Players can also treat Olivia the same way by being understanding and respectful to her, which has minor effects on her fate at the end of the game if she isn’t chosen to enter the portal.
Finally, players can also alienate or befriend Jacob, helping him change his outlook on the future. It’s unclear whether finding Maggie Adler’s Letters in Oxenfree 2 is what gets him to change, but it’s worth doing regardless. Oxenfree 2’s story is somewhat nuanced, so it’s ultimately up to players to decide which ending they want to unlock.
