Clerics are one of the best classes for divine damage and party support in Baldur’s Gate 3, especially when you multiclass into other archetypes. Giving your character levels in another class lets you wield additional skills and abilities you normally could not have. Expanding your potential can refine your build and let you become extremely powerful through the synergy seen between classes.
The Cleric is surprisingly the least popular class in Baldur’s Gate 3 as of this time of writing. Don’t let this statistic fool you; this class has access to perhaps the strongest healing spells and versatile DPS features that outdo many other archetypes. While it may not be the best class for beginners, it certainly has a variety of approaches that make it a great addition to a well-rounded party.
Multiclassing from any archetype is optional and not recommended for newer players. The careful balance between stats in a multiclass build can easily create a character that can do multiple things but fails to excel at any of them.
5 Best Multiclass Combinations In Baldur’s Gate 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can create different multiclass builds to best unlock strong hybrid combinations with diverse spellsets and abilities.
Cleric & Paladin Multiclass Build
The Cleric and Paladin create a traditional multiclass build born of their shared devotion to divine forces that grant them arcane power. This multiclass is meant for those who want to fully commit to a balanced role in their party by dealing damage and healing allies in equal measure. One of the most valuable traits to have in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be found in both of these classes as you continue to level up.
Many of the spells available to the Cleric allow you to buff your character before or during battles in Baldur’s Gate 3. The extra protection for you or your teammates gives you the perfect opportunity to use the Paladin’s trademark skill – Divine Smite. Unleash explosive holy damage with a nearly unstoppable character that has multiple sources of healing from their abilities.

The best Paladin builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 rely completely on Strength and Charisma, which can be hard to synergize with a Cleric’s spellcasting focus through Wisdom. You can choose to either create a character that prioritizes dealing fast and consistent damage, someone who tanks hits for their party, or something else entirely. The possibilities with this type of multiclass are nearly endless.
A great combination of subclasses for the Cleric and Paladin are the Trickery Domain and Oathbreaker. The skills from these paths allow your character to debuff enemies and take a stealthier approach to combat.
The two levels of Paladin will give you a chance to select a Fighting Style, along with Lay on Hands for a natural source of healing. Along with Divine Smite, one of the most interesting Paladin/Cleric combos is to use the spell Spirit Guardians before rushing toward a hostile target. The strong melee damage from the Paladin combines with the damage-dealing protective Cleric spell to tear through enemy HP.
Cleric & Bard Multiclass Build
Anyone looking for a multiclass that centers solely around the best support possible for their party should look no further than the Cleric and Bard. These two classes synergize their spellcasting to maximize the amount of protective or healing magic in your arsenal. The buffs provided by the Bard in Baldur’s Gate 3 are abundant and pair well with even minimal investment into levels of the Cleric class.

This build sacrifices the damage-dealing features of the Cleric in exchange for a heavier focus on the Bard’s supportive abilities. Similar to the best Warlock multiclass builds, you should have Charisma as the highest stat for your character in Baldur’s Gate 3. Your spells meant to empower the strongest in your group are tied to this score, so you should make it the most important piece of your character.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Classes Are Going To Save Your Campaign From Disaster
Baldur’s Gate 3 might be intimidating for some newcomers, but one key feature that’s new to the series should stop players from running aground.
Your magic from this build can also apply debuffs to enemies, allowing your fellow party members to face fewer obstacles in combat. The organization of your many proficiencies will allow this build to hold conversations and maybe avoid battles entirely with the right words. You may not be the primary DPS, but you could be a silver-tongued negotiator who solves problems before they even start in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Cleric & Sorcerer Multiclass Build
The strongest multiclass for pure arcane damage in Baldur’s Gate 3 belongs to the combination of the Cleric and Sorcerer classes. Elemental firepower from spells like Fireball can destroy your enemies, while Cleric buffs and healing will make you even stronger. Similar to the Bard multiclass, this build takes a normally frail archetype and uses the Cleric’s affinity for armor to give you better protection.

Charisma and Wisdom are still your primary stats in the same way as the Bard multiclass but for a different purpose. This time, the Sorcerer uses their high spellcasting stat to make it harder for enemies to avoid spells that deal huge amounts of damage. A character with this build becomes a balanced master of nearly every type of magic in Baldur’s Gate 3, making them extremely versatile.
One of the most broken subclass combinations in the game is the Tempest Domain Cleric and Storm Sorcerer, whose combined features deal some of the highest DPS among any possible character build.
The Cleric and Sorcerer classes should be built up fairly evenly without leaning on one or the other too much. Your character won’t have nearly as many defensive abilities as the Paladin multiclass, but you will have a larger spread of spells that could provide extra protection. An excellent example would include Shield of Faith, which raises a target’s total Armor Class by 2 in Baldur’s Gate 3.
One of the biggest weaknesses of the Sorcerer class is their dismal health in comparison to other archetypes. This is due in part to the spellcaster class already being one of the strongest choices for a character in the game from their abundance of Metamagic and other arcane features. Raising this class’ health by adding Cleric makes this multiclass, without a doubt, one of the best builds in Baldur’s Gate 3.
